To ensure sufficient vitamin D intake, please feed marine fish 2-3 times a week, such as salmon, mackerel, or sprats, or add cod liver oil to our "Goldstückchen" 2-3 times a week.
Additionally, a nice raw meat bone should be fed 2-3 times a week so that your dog has something to chew on and can clean their teeth in the process.
This also provides valuable calcium and other healthy nutrients for the musculoskeletal system. If your dog tends to swallow larger pieces of a bone too quickly, make sure to give them a larger bone that you can set aside in time if necessary.
The fat content of the "Goldstückchen" can be supplemented with other fats. Up to 20% of the daily ration is allowed. Especially if you are very active with your dog. Why? The dog draws energy from fat. If there is too little fat available, protein is used for energy production. During this metabolic process (if it happens long-term), however, the kidneys are strained. This can be the reason why it is often said that BARF is bad for the kidneys: because the dog is fed too little fat. If a diet is actually necessary, the total amount of food should rather be reduced.
